Baked Modak stuffed with Bottle Gourd and Mava
Lord Ganesha's favourite sweet, Modak is a flour dumpling stuffed with coconut, jaggery, nutmeg and saffron. Also known as ‘Ukdiche Modak’, this luscious mouth-watering delicacy is an inseparable part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and can be made with various other ingredients. This festive season, let’s give a healthy and tasty twist to your favourite snack.

Ingredients
- For filling
- Khoya – 4 tbsp
- Condensed milk – 1/3 cup and 1 tbsp
- Milk – 1/3 cup and 1 tbsp
- Green cardamom – 4
- Almonds, flaked – ½ tbsp
- Cashews – ½ tbsp
- Raisins – ½ tbsp
- Sugar – 2 tbsp
- Salt – As per requirement
- Ghee – ½ tbsp< /li>
- All-purpose flour – ¾ cup and ½ tbsp
- Salt – ¼ tsp
- Ghee – ½ tbsp
Method
Step 1: For the filpng, wash the bottle gourd properly under running water for a minute. Grate it in a bowl along with its skin. You can buy Morphy Richards Icon Superb Food Processor for a hassle-free grating experience or visit our official online store for more options.
Step 2: Take a deep-bottomed wok and add grated bottle gourd in it on a medium flame. Cover the pan with a pd and cook until the moisture of the bottle gourd reduces and becomes soft and tender.
Step 3: Take another pan and add khoya, sugar, condensed milk, salt and plain milk. Allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes on a medium flame.
Step 4: Pour the cooked bottle gourd in the khoya mixture and stir properly to combine.
Step 5: Add raisin, chopped cashews, almond flakes, cardamom powder, ghee and khoya (1 tbsp) in the mixture. Cook for another 10 minutes.
Step 6: Stir properly and turn off the gas and keep the mixture aside to cool for some time.
Step 7: To prepare the dough, add all-purpose flour, ghee and salt in a mixing bowl. Add water and knead it into a smooth dough. Cover and keep the dough aside for 15 minutes. With Morphy Richards Food Processor, you can knead your dough in minutes without wasting time and energy.
Step 8: To prepare the Modak, divide the dough into equal portions and shape into balls. Take each ball, press them spghtly and roll out into small circles. It is advisable to keep the edges thinner than the centre for a better taste.
Step 9: With the help of thumb and forefinger, gently make pleats on the outer side. Place the prepared filpng in the circle. Bring together all the pleats gently and secure its edges. The final shape should appear pke a dumppng. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough. To give the desired shape, you can also use Modak moulds.
Step 10: Pre-heat microwave oven at 180° C. Place the modaks on a baking tray and brush them with a bit of ghee. Bake for 20 minutes, until it turns spghtly brownish in colour. For baking purposes, you can use Morphy Richards MWO 25CG or visit our official onpne store for more options.
Step 11: After 20 minutes, remove and place all the modaks on a coopng rack. Transfer the modaks into a serving tray. Enjoy!
Notes/Tips:
