10 Ways to Cook Corn

On a day of heavy downpour, one of the best things to do is to enjoy a bhuna bhutta or roasted corn on cob smeared with lemon juice and chaat masala. As appetizing as corn is, it is also packed with nutrients. Corn kernels don’t only contain carbohydrates but also proteins, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. With so much goodness and flavour packed in corn, it is only apt that this monsoon we try and incorporate it in different kinds of preparations.

Here are 10 ways to incorporate corn in cooking to arrive at scrumptious corn dishes:

1. Garlicky Corn on Cob

Break the corn cobs into two equal halves. Slather these with butter, dry garlic chutney and wrap them in a foil until it is completely covered. Now place these in the Morphy Richards OTG on grill setting and cook for about half an hour or until done at 180OCelsius. Serve this as side dishes during lunch or dinner or simply munch on them to kill hunger pangs.

2. Cream of Corn Soup

A rain soaked day is the perfect excuse to stir up a bowl of steaming hot, sweet corn soup for loved ones. With the Morphy Richards Sauté and Soup Maker this task is a cake walk. In the sauté mode of the appliance, just add some butter in it and allow it to melt. Add chopped garlic, onions, boiled corn kernels and sauté for a minute or so. Stir in milk, cream and allow the mixture to cook on the Chunky mode. Cover with the lid and use soup maker function to blend the contents to arrive at a nicely textured soup. Serve with a sprinkle of black pepper powder and drizzle of fresh cream.

3. Corn Pakoras

In bowl, combine boiled corn kernels with sliced onions, chopped fresh green coriander, spice powders - turmeric , red chilli & coriander, gram flour, a spoon of water and mix well to get a thick viscous batter. Spoon a tablespoon of batter in a deep-fryer containing heated oil till and fry the batter till you get crispy, golden fritters. These prove perfect accompaniments to a cup of masala chai.

4. Corn Chaat

This is a quick treat you can put together for tiffins as well as snack time.  Boil corn kernels with water in the Morphy Richards Microwave Oven in a matter of few minutes. Then mix these corn kernels with chaat masala, red chilli flakes, lemon juice and salt to arrive at a bowl of chatpati corn chaat.

5. Corn Upma

Enrich your regular upma in both taste and nutrition value by adding a few boiled corn kernels to it while cooking. This upma is bound to be a hit especially with children.

6. Corn Cheese Muffins

Savoury muffins with corn are a great idea for not only breakfast but also tea time. In the regular muffin batter merely add boiled corn kernels along with grated cheddar cheese and spoon this batter in a greased muffin tray. Bake the tray in preheated Morphy Richards OTG for just 15-20 minutes at 180oCelsius to get a batch of scrumptious corn cheese muffins.

7. Corn Spinach Parathas

Mash boiled corn and quickly sauté it with blanched spinach leaves. Season with salt and black pepper powder and use this as filling for parathas.

8. Corn Dhingri Korma

The pairing of corn and dhingri or mushrooms in a curry is one that goes down well with everyone. So, create a curry base of onion, tomatoes, garam masala and just chuck in boiled corn and quartered button mushrooms to make a flavourful curry to go along with piping hot chapatis or steamed rice.

9. Corn Fried Rice
